GOODBYE TO A MEMBER:

Ralph K. has chosen to not renew his membership. He has had many accomplishments during his time with us:District Lieutenant Governor, President, Vice-President, Director and member in good standing since Dec. 9, 2004 (13 years). He brought us the idea of the HCO newsletter (Goods and Goodies), thanks to him we have the CSV (customer service vehicle-ambulance) and loved to drive it in parades, Ralph connected us with childhood disease research, represented us on the Saskatoon Service Club Council for many years, and brought awareness of structure and investments to HCO. His love for kids and the community is immeasurable. He was actively involved in our fundraising and it was commonplace to see him at most events over the years. Thank you Ralph, we wish you all the best.

GOODY FOR GOODIES
Crock Pot Chicken Stew (quick and easy from the kitchen of Cheryl C.)
 1 can of chicken broth
1 can of gravy
1 pkg. chicken breasts (pkg. 5/$10 Walmart)
2 medium potatoes cut into bite size pieces
1 small onion chunked. Don’t worry about separating sections as this will happen when it cooks.
Carrots (same amount as potatoes) cut into bite size pieces
Parsnips (same amount as potatoes) cut into bite size pieces. Optional. You can use turnip instead if you like, or just use carrots.
Stay away from peppers and mushrooms as they have too much moisture and will thin your gravy.
Spices: Italian (1 tbsp. of crushed). Optional. You can use a different spice to add some flavor. Try a bay leaf or 2, or dill.
Salt, pepper (1 tsp. of each)
Turn crockpot on and put chicken broth and gravy in. Cut chicken into bite size pieces (not too small) and cover with flour (not too much or
your broth will be too thick and flour tasting; it’s more like a dusting to cover chicken). Add chicken to broth.
Add potatoes, onion, carrots and parsnips (turnips).
Add spices. Give it a good stir.
Let crockpot do its thing, and then eat.
You can serve with a salad (or coleslaw) and buns.

TODAY:
Add your age and birth date together and you will get 2017 (this year). This only works every 1000 years.

DID YOU KNOW...
It is believed that candy dates back to the ancient Egyptians at around 2000BC. The first ''candies'' were made from honey mixed with
fruit or nuts. Sugar candy was invented by the Indians about 250AD.

Fishing For Whiskey

“Poor Old fool,” thought the well-dressed gentleman as he watched an old man fish in a puddle outside a pub. So he invited the old man inside for a drink. As they sipped their whiskeys, the gentleman thought he’d humor the old man and asked, “So how many have you caught today?”

The old man replied, “You’re the eighth.”

Modern birthday parties are said to get their roots from the 18th century German celebration “Kinderfeste.”
On the morning of a child’s birthday, he or she would receive a cake with lighted candles that added up to the kid’s age, plus one.
This extra candle was called the “light of life,” representing the hope of another full-year lived.

GOODY FOR GOODIES

Elephant Stew (Yield: 3800 servings)
1    Elephant,         2    Rabbits,            Brown Gravy,         Salt and Pepper to taste.
Cut elephant into small bite size pieces. This should take about 2 months.
Add enough brown gravy to cover, about half a train tank car.

Cook over kerosene heat for about 4 weeks at 450 degrees. This recipe should serve 3,800 people. If more are expected, add 2 extra rabbits. Do so only if necessary as most people do not like hare in their stew.
